Industrial Machinery Transport Spain from UK: End-to-End Service

Industrial machinery moves between Spain and the UK, handled door-to-door by a Madrid-based freight agency. From CNC centres and printing presses to agricultural harvesters and wind-turbine components — we plan the route, secure the permits, pick the right trailer and coordinate loading and unloading so your machine lands on time and intact.

Who we move machinery for

Regular clients on this lane include UK manufacturers shifting production lines to Spanish suppliers, plant hire firms repositioning equipment between projects, system integrators installing CNC and automation, wind-farm developers moving turbine components, and agricultural dealers sending tractors, seeders and combine harvesters.

Machinery types we handle

  • Industrial machinery: CNC machining centres, injection moulding machines, printing presses, packaging lines, industrial ovens
  • Construction plant: excavators, backhoe loaders, dumpers, rollers, generators, compressors
  • Agricultural: tractors, self-propelled harvesters, seeders, sprayers, balers
  • Renewable energy components: wind-turbine nacelles, towers, blades (abnormal-load territory)
  • Access and lifting: scissor lifts, cherry pickers, telescopic handlers, mobile cranes
  • Bespoke industrial equipment: static plant, oversized tanks, prefabricated modules

How a machinery move is planned

Unlike a standard pallet shipment, machinery transport is a project. Every consignment is scoped individually before we quote:

  1. Cargo survey — dimensions, weight, lashing points, whether it rolls or is static, centre of gravity, fragility
  2. Route survey — where abnormal-load regulations apply, bridge heights, city access windows, restricted roads
  3. Trailer selection — lowboy (step-frame), extendable lowboy, telescopic, flatbed, or specialist modular trailer
  4. Permit handling — ACC (Autorización Complementaria de Circulación) in Spain, equivalent permits in France, UK STGO notifications
  5. Loading/unloading coordination — crane booking, site access, rigging team, forklift backup
  6. Escort vehicles where required by the permit or cargo dimensions
  7. Active tracking throughout, with clear comms if anything changes en route

Pricing: what a machinery move looks like

Machinery transport prices vary much more widely than standard freight — the factors that move the price are weight, overall dimensions, access difficulty, permit complexity and whether escorts are needed. As a reference:

Machinery typeTypical routeIndicative price (€)
Agricultural tractor (standard)UK → Madrid on lowboy€3.950–€4.600
CNC machine (up to 10 t, under 2.55 m wide)UK → Madrid FTL lowboy€4.100–€5.000
Industrial press (20–28 t, standard dimensions)UK Midlands → Valencia€4.500–€5.800
Abnormal load (over 2.55 m wide or over 4 m tall)UK → Madrid with ACC permit + escort€6.500–€9.500+
Wind-turbine nacelle (approx. 100 t, 15+ m)UK port → Spanish wind farmProject-based, from €12.000

Indicative 2026 prices. Final price depends on machine dimensions, weight distribution, lashing points, access at both ends, permit complexity, escort requirements, and seasonal availability of specialist trailers. Every machinery move is quoted individually after the survey.

Permits, regulations and what UK shippers often miss

The Spanish side of the lane is the one most UK shippers underestimate. Spain has a layered permit system for abnormal loads:

  • Generic authorisation — covers vehicles up to 20.55 m long × 3 m wide × 4.5 m tall, max 45 t. Speed limit 40 km/h (generally) and tighter time windows
  • Specific ACC authorisation — for vehicles up to 40 m × 5 m × 4.7 m, max 110 t. Route must be surveyed and approved; speed up to 70 km/h
  • Catalonia and Basque Country have their own SCT (Servei Català de Trànsit) and Basque regulations on top of DGT
  • City-centre access often requires prior notification to local ayuntamiento with 24-72h advance notice if an escort is needed

On the UK side, STGO (Special Types General Order) and Notification 46 or Special Order cover abnormal loads. We coordinate both ends.

Common mistakes on machinery moves

  • Waiting for perfect specs before quoting — we can work with ranges and refine the quote as measurements firm up. Lost booking windows cost more than early engagement
  • Assuming «similar» machines cost the same — a 20 t CNC and a 20 t industrial press can differ €1.500–€2.000 on the same route because of lashing complexity and centre of gravity
  • Under-specifying site access — «the forklift will be there» is not a plan. Specify tonnage, reach, dock or ground-level unload, turning circle available
  • Booking the move without insurance review — CMR liability caps at 8.33 SDR/kg. For a €200,000 machine that’s not nearly enough. Ad valorem cover is available and modest on premium

Frequently asked questions

What’s the biggest machine you can move?

On standard abnormal-load permits: up to 40 m long × 5 m wide × 4.7 m tall, max 110 t. Larger (wind-turbine blades, refinery modules) is possible on specific-permit modular trailers — scoped case-by-case.

How long does a machinery move take?

5–10 working days end-to-end for a standard move UK→Madrid with permits (3–4 days for the transit itself, plus permit lead time). Urgent can compress to 3–5 days with premium pricing.

Do you arrange the crane at loading and unloading?

Yes — when needed, we book the crane and rigger team at both ends and coordinate with the haulier’s arrival window.

Can you handle the full route survey?

Yes. For abnormal loads we survey the route, identify any restrictive bridges or turns, and coordinate with the Spanish Traffic Authority (DGT) and regional bodies to secure the permit.

What insurance applies?

Standard CMR liability (8.33 SDR/kg of gross weight) is included. For high-value machinery we recommend ad valorem insurance; we arrange it via our broker on request.

Can you collect outside working hours?

Early-morning and Saturday collections are possible with advance notice. Sundays and bank holidays depend on permit availability (Spain has tighter weekend restrictions for abnormal loads).

Ready to move machinery UK↔Spain?

Send the brief — machine type, dimensions and weight, origin and destination, deadline — via our quote form or WhatsApp. We come back with a written quote inside 2 working hours in most cases, or a scoping call if the move needs a route survey first.
